(5,909 posts)She used to live 4 houses down, but liked us better. Previous owners had no problem with us adopting her. Sadly, I think she is showing early signs of kidney failure...she's about that age. I have to take her to the vet to get bloodwork done.

TuxedoKat
(3,818 posts)and cuddly-looking kitty! I thought one of my cats (16) was showing signs of kidney disease (drinking more water than in the past) but his bloodwork has checked out fine for the past several years. I did have one cat who did have it for several years (5+ at least) but succumbed to something else (stroke and possibly cancer). Anyway, since this recent scare, I have been trying different ways to get more water into my cats. One thing I do is to give them wet cat food at least once a day. Sometimes I'll mix some water into it to make it wetter and some pet antioxidant powder too, if I have some. I want to get one of those automatic watering contraptions as I hear that they encourage cats to drink more water too.

(6,336 posts)I thought I had that setting public but you can always friend request me too (just mention DU).
It was very hard on me--- I travel a lot for work and I was 1000 miles away when it happened (I left him with my parents). I never got to say goodbye and that was really hard on me.
I'd have another kitty but it's just not fair to the cat to leave him/her with my parents for months.

(64,933 posts)Rosy is on the plus side of 20 lbs now. I think he weighs the combined weight of Sonia and Panda!
Sonia is doing fine. No more lost teeth. She was down here a minute ago. Oh wait, it's ten o'clock and time for her to put our daughter to bed!!
Edited to add: Yeap. That's what Sonia was doing. Heard our daughter saying "get out Sonia! I'm not going to bed yet!!"

(13,661 posts)One of ours, Silver, is the morning greeter (she doesn't come in until she hears us waking up, she's such a good girl!) Ivan is the shower monitor; he makes sure neither my husband nor I drown in the shower. That used to also be Silver's job, but she delegated to Ivan.

(64,933 posts)Sonia is also known as the "stomach". She demands to be fed as soon as someone gets up in the morning and starting at 4:00pm she demands to be fed dinner.

(19,288 posts)Beautiful cat. I swear I am going to make myself learn to post pictures. I'd love to show off, Ralphie. She is hard to see cuz she is mostly black and white. She is smeared up with random orange streaks. She looks like a clockwork orange in the face. Her kitty butt is the cutest cuz she has no tail.

The 2nd of Finni is a computerized painting of a photo of him in the window and the 2nd of Modi is with his 3 brothers and his sister.

(2,572 posts)This is Hastur the Unspeakable, my Savannah cat. At two years of age, he still has another year to grow. Still a kitten. The nicest cat I've ever lived with.
Here's Hastur with his pet Munchkin cat, Natasha Krospina I, Empress of All the Cats. The Cat Pile is what they do when they're not chasing one another and swearing bloody death and vengeance.
Hastur is getting large, but Natasha is enormous at over fifteen pounds of muscle on a bulldog's frame.

(39 posts)The day before, he had jumped up on my daughter's writing desk, then from there, up to the thin one inch wide rail of her bed where he was walking around a bit before he fell. He never learns anything from experience, so when I saw him up there again the following day, I grabbed the video camera.
He also rolls around in her sidewalk chalk drawings, coloring himself pink, and he once crawled into my sock drawer and ate the tip off her pacifier I was saving to give her when she grew up. It lodged in his small intestine, and I had to have him cut open and his intestines searched to remove it. The good news was they returned the tip to me in a plastic baggie, and gave me back an unblocked cat along with a $1500 doctor bill.

(37,428 posts)At seventeen-and-a-half, he survived not just pneumonia but pneumothorax. He'd stopped eating, and only the correct flavor of Berber baby food (beef) smeared on his lips got him eating again. He bounced right back. Nearly a year ago he went into arrest during a check-up, and the vet called us over to say goodbye. We arrived to find him standing and scolding the whole room, ready to jump down from the table.
The vet said to us, and I quote, "You're gonna have to take a two-by-four to him."
He was diagnosed with renal failure three years ago, and has been getting subcutaneous fluids a few times a week for support. Right up until the day before he died, he was still doing his tomcat patrols (though he tired easily from the anemia) and eating like a pig.

(838 posts)My kitties voted in the midterms. I didn't get the results I hoped for, but I did get lots of laughs. (I've posted this on DU before.) I'm going to do another one of these for the election this year, fixing some of the problems I had with this one (such as the lighting). Trial and error, live and learn If all goes well, I'll get better (=more Democratic) results too, but I'd rather have better results in real life Enjoy!
