Remember when doctors use to tap our knees with a triangular instrument?

They had us sit on a table with legs dangling over the edge and the taps would result in a reflex action. What did it mean if your legs didn't respond to the tapping?

and it tests peripheral nerves and the spinal cord. It's part of a neurological exam that might include touching your nose with your finger, walking in a straight line, standing with your eyes closed.

Absence of a normal patellar (kneecap) reflex, for example, can suggest disease or trauma to the spinal cord and aid in localizing the point of disease or injury. Conversely, an exaggerated (increased) reflex signals a condition called "CLONUS" seen with some drug toxicities, cerebral palsy, stroke, MS, spinal cord damage and some forms of encephalopathy (usually liver).

Still part of a comprehensive neuro exam.

I suspect it was because I have a malocclusion of the knees. It was a general exam, so I wasn't in there for any specific reason. But, now that I'm in my old age and I have a cricky knee I thought back to that moment and wonder if there was a connection.

when she whacks it, my leg really starts dancing a jig...she said that is good. I am in WI where we still have docs, much to Walker's chagrin.

mammo 6 mos, MRI 6 mos. 5 years ago they said get a double mastectomy or take this pill(hideous side effects) every day for 5 years. I did not have cancer at the time and said no to both options. Doc said I am very likely to get it, but so far so good. They do mini physical as I suppose they need to code it that way.

Keep on keeping on woman!

I so distrust the medical field. Bad experiences.

All the best to you.
