Just realized there was more to that story. Yes, I know that the point that was being made is that we can bring things to life if we give them enough love and attention. But I never really saw how it applied to adult concepts until now, because I had to distort my world view in order to fit into the world view of a non-believer.
Looking at it through the eyes of someone who has tunnel vision, you see how they became the people they are today because they failed to connect with the world in its entirety. They failed to connect with the environment, the needs of the poor and cultural differences, for example. These things have no more meaning to them than toys they outgrew.
Which means, that we are going to have to provide more love and attention to these issues to give them life and offset the carelessness and recklessness of those who forgot what really is important.

(4,492 posts)I have a stuffed animal (Brownie) from my childhood that's a prime example of how a loved stuffed animal is ratty and worn out. I got that thing in elementary school and he came to college with me. ONly in my 30s did I learn to sleep without him (now he sits on a high shelf).
My mom used to ask to bring him to class when she taught the book.
