I've been watching a so-far unsuccessful pickup attempt

on my bird feeder. A male house finch has been singing his head off and hopping around and flapping his wings and moving in on a female, who is having none of it. She's ignoring him and has sldled away to the other side of the feeder and kept eating. A sparrow showed up and the male finch chased him away, even though the sparrow was just an innocent bystander. I don't think this is going to work out.

These are house finches. They're cute.

Love those little red heads!

I also love their calls. It's a long run of cute little fluttering chirps all strung together, punctuated at the end by a rough raggedy SQUAAAWWWK! I've actually laughed out loud at it sometimes.

A singles dance vs a flock of pigeons.

You'll see the males strutting around trying to impress the females.
