The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsGreetings or re-greetings DUers
Actually, I was active here early on, but got distracted by this teensy thing called life (it comes at your fast, my friends) and when I came back, the e-mail I'd used to create my user name (which I'd forgotten) and password (also forgotten) was no longer valid, so I created a new user name and here I am. But I digress. Just got an e-mail recommending I introduce myself at The DU Lounge, so....
I am Pacifist Patriot's twin sister (OH MY GOD, THERE'S TWO OF US!). Yes, we're identical. No, you can't tell from where you are. You'll have to take my word for it.
I rarely take anything seriously and tend to look at the world through a really twisted pair of rose-ish colored glasses (early introduction to Monty Python), but have to admit to gaining cynicism like a freight train going down a mountain as I get older. I blame Trump. No, seriously, it really is his fault. Well, not entirely. It probably started under Bush II. I rebounded for 8 years and then, well, you know what happened last November. Reality went out the window, shit went cray and I started needing TheFerret posts like a Red Bull at the start of a 3rd shift.
I am stuck in a boring as dirt dead-end desk job, but hey, I have not-so-great insurance and an iPhone, so I'm good as far as Republicans are concerned. I'm an amateur photographer (mostly gardens and sporting events, yeah, those two have a lot in common) and play around with graphic design to try to inject a little creativity into my life. Yes, I made the TheFerret Time cover and all I keep thinking is, damn, it would have been so much better if I actually had any training in graphic arts and better software. But that's me. I have a touch of OCD and tend to be my own worst critic.
I am a soccer fanatic and have an older adopted son who plays the game professionally and a teenage son who would like to (State Champs last year, so I hope he hasn't peaked early).
I am a voracious reader of just about any genre and dig music and movies as well. In short, I'm totally into escapism in any shape or form. Finally, if you play bar trivia, you ALWAYS want to have Pacifist Patriot and me on your team. We can kill it in Sports, Geography, History, Literature, Science, etc. even after two bottles of wine. True Story.
Peace out and onwards and upwards towards the 2018 Midterms!

Never applied the word escapism to my visits to DU but you make me admit it now.

(16,334 posts)she and I posted together on another lefty message board long ago in a land far away. That's how I found DU. I think several others used to post here but I can't remember if they stuck around. Most of them went to Facebook and I don't have and will never have anything to do with Facebook.
I LOVE that Ferret magazine cover! Any way to find a laugh in these times is really a treat. Thanks for that.
