(115,733 posts)the sellers are going to have fun moving that crap out of there. The real estate agent had to come up with some pretty good copy to describe the house because there's so much stuff you can't really see any of its features. I've always understood that when you show your house for sale you should simplify, get rid of as much clutter as possible, and have it staged so potential buyers can imagine their own belongings in the house. Obviously that was not done here and probably couldn't be done. Even the patio was engulfed in clutter.
And the stuff itself is horrible kitschy crap. I don't think I could spend 10 minutes there; I'd run away screaming.

(15,810 posts)Maybe that *is* cleaned up.
My mom is a hoarder. I am impressed with the house at the link- the hoard is much more contained.

(34,136 posts)"This study is a great size with French doors to the patio and pool. The hardwoods are awesome and all the bookcases would be hard to fill for most folks."
THIS owner filled every single inch of space on the shelves, in front of the books and hung a doll (?) from the ceiling!

(1,233 posts)There is a LOT of stuff, but it doesn't seem to impair cleanliness or obstruct traffic. It's pretty whimsical.
Beautiful home- worth clicking through to see the rest of the pics.

(115,733 posts)of stuff you like; it's something else altogether when you're trying to sell a house that's overwhelmed with it. This is a real estate agent's nightmare - an expensive house whose features can barely be seen because of the vast amount of distracting stuff in it.

(19,565 posts)It would make me a nervous wreck to have that much stuff in my home, but it appears to be a reflection of their unique personality.
My only turn off was the little creek in the backyard. In that area that would be such a mosquito nightmare, and I imagine it rises significantly when they have flooding. Which happens often in that part Texas.

(14,627 posts)Almost every room has a manikin, if not several!
Slides 8 and 17 actually have KID MANIKINS suspended from the ceiling UPSIDE DOWN!!! WTF!
Are we sure this home owner isn't a serial killer? This looks like it might be the home of Buffalo Bill, the villain in 'Silence of the Lambs'! I wonder if it has a basement? Where is Precious?

(2,817 posts)Two pictures taken from different angles with the lawnmower in the background. I guess it's not any weirder than those silhouettes people put in their yards, but on a riding lawnmower?
At this rate I would put one face down in the pool.

(1,315 posts)looks like a kid walking across the ceiling, and the other a tricycle being ridden upside down.
Not sinister at all.

(153,169 posts)it looks organized, functional, cared for - the only thing that really concerns me is lack of access to windows, in case of a fire

(34,136 posts)There are views you don't see in the still photos. And there are MORE mannikins!
This is a lovely house, stuffed full of stuff that I am sure means a lot to the people who have been living there. But the realtor really needs to convince them to clear it out so she can show off the house without all that clutter in the way.

(35,685 posts)She is very good at what she does and when she comes into a place, she pretty much wipes the slate clean because it is true: people don't have much imagination. Too much stuff is overpowering.
When my friend stages a house, it can run 6-7000, easily (for an avg, middle-class home), and that's not counting the improvements she recommends, which are things like painting, new tile, etc.
However, the homes she stages almost always come in $25,000 over asking price and sometimes there are bidding wars. Houses that have been on the market for a while will sell within a week of her staging. Many times the people buy all the furnishings, so she doesn't even have to move anything out of the house.

(5,810 posts)about real hoarders. Often there is garbage piled everywhere, bags of stuff in mountains heaped on top of each other, filth of all kinds, bugs, rats, dead animals, expired food in a refrigerator that may or may not be functioning. It is often too much to watch if you are easily upset or nauseated by the sight of living conditions like that.
The person or persons living in this large, expensive home may have hoarding tendencies. I could see such a person slipping over the edge into the extreme hoarding behavior. But right now, things are too organized and contained. Some areas might even be considered "tidy" --- although I use that term loosely. LOL. I guess the home owner might be considered an extreme collector of all kinds of stuff. That, in itself, is worthy of a TV show on TLC. 😂😂😂😂

(115,733 posts)The owner of this house likes lots and lots of decorative stuff, but I'm sure they throw away their old newspapers and soda cans, etc. Hoarding is a form of OCD, but these guys just have a style of interior decorating that involves festooning all available spaces with... something.
Here are some difference between collecting and hoarding:
"Hoarding is not the same as collecting. In general, collectors have a sense of pride about their possessions and they experience joy in displaying and talking about them. They usually keep their collection organized, feel satisfaction when adding to it, and budget their time and money.
Those who hoard usually experience embarrassment about their possessions and feel uncomfortable when others see them. They have clutter, often at the expense of livable space, feel sad or ashamed after acquiring additional items, and they are often in debt."

(21,646 posts)will get this below market if they see past it. And it should go low as there may a lot of minor damage from the um decorating . Hard for inspector to spot issues also
