Pepsi NEXT...Crusaders against soda pop? please skip this.

SOFT DRINK REVIEW No. 1
Pepsi NEXT
I have no business commenting on soda pops. I
rarely drink them. Still, it's much more frequent
than "never" which is when I will purchase a can
or bottle of Pepsi NEXT.
With 1/2 the sugar you have my attention. I am a
Pepsi man over Coca-Cola in any case so I welcome
the opportunity to enjoy a treat with a little less
sugar, actually HFCS which I still wish didn't exist but
no longer has me panic stricken.
The problem is the artificial sweetener Sucralose.
It is that fake sweetener flavor that ruins all diet
beverages whose makers are convinced that sweetness
trumps palatability.
Like I said...it's no sweat for me. I am not a
habitual soda pop drinker so I can afford to
"splurge" and have a regular Pepsi when I get
ready. Others though should be aware that Pepsi
NEXT, far from an improvement over either
regular OR Diet Pepsi, is instead a perfect blending
of what is wrong with the both of them. If Pepsi
really wanted to do us a favor they would release
Pepsi RAW with raw sugar or Pepsi HONEY.

I did try Pepsi Next and was surprised at how sweet it tasted despite a lot less sugar, but I didn't really like it.

Coke had a product called C2. The Pepsi equivalent was Pepsi Edge.

From Wikipedia: "Pepsi Edge: contains half the carbohydrates, calories and sugars of a normal Pepsi, and is flavored by Splenda. Introduced in 2004, and discontinued in 2005. It was featured on an episode of The Apprentice 2 in which teams had to design a prototype bottle."

I have the same reaction now I had back them -- big deal, it's half Diet Pepsi and half regular Pepsi. I've been doing that for years to cut back on the total sugar intake I drink, mixing it either half and half or 2 diet to one regular can.

Talk about re-inventing the wheel.

What is it with this community?
Does anyone ever comment on the substance of a post? Is it just constant hipsterism and oneupsmanship?

Dude, you said Pepsi Max was too sweet -- that ain't much in the way of substance upon which one can comment.

If it helps, you're right. That shit's way too sweet and chemical-tasting.

...the free verse format is due to a glitch in pasting via my moble device. I am working on it. Point taken.
My complaint, or rather observation and subsequent question is due to the responses.
Why bother commenting when the comments are just snarky and unfunny?
Nevermind, don't bother responding this time. I'll just go back to my other forums where grown ups can post and have discussions without being dicks to one another.

You're reading way to far between the lines, and frankly you're out of line.

Perhaps you should try the caffeine free sodas?

what was out of line?
My error must be assuming that the responses, if there were any, would have been geared differently. The two responses to which you refer were certainly welcome but smacked of blind consumerism...the second one managing to blend hipster douchbaggery in with it. Vapid IMHO.
I suppose I just don't, or have yet to, fit in here. My other posts have been snarked upon and ridiculed with the same sort of bratty witticisms that I find less witty and more bratty as I get older. Still...at under 40 I didn't know I was getting so crotchety.
My aim was to gauge a reaction to a casual criticism of a common product and follow the eventual determination up with thanks and a brief comment on how it formed my new perspective. The topic had to be mundane so that opposing arguments could be held well below injurious levels.
Instead I got two comments that said basically...It's sweeter than I thought and I have known about this gimmick for years.
The rest, of course, is the "harshing upon" that has become every pseudointellectual punk's favorite hobby...that and declaring hypocrisy in ten steps or less...interpreting inferences and associations on the fly in order to maintain an argument where there is none.
Golly....I am crotchety.
Fuck it.

We all used to be a normal community, then we all got the dreaded Dutch Elm Disease.

Jealous you're not as hip as me and my ironic glasses, plaid shirts, all-white Keds and skinny jeans? I'm so ironic that I'm postironic, I'm so hip that I can't even give a shit; I'm like "whatev."
