I work in DC. Went up to the roof of the building. There were at least 300 others up there. It flew right by, just to the east of the Washington Monument and the Old Post Office, which is catty-corner to my building. So not only could we see it, but it was very close to us.
PS My sister is going to shit a brick when I tell her.

My husband and I were just remembering when we watched the shuttle pass overhead in the dark, as we had heard it would be visible here in northern California on its way to land in Florida. We came back into the house and about ten minutes later it was landing!
