(12,022 posts)And she scampered out of the house to go hunting. I was amazed by how spry she was. Her owner doesn't overfeed her, and lets her chow down on the mice and other critters she catches.

(5,801 posts)that constitutes modern-day commercial cat food is probably responsible for significantly shortening the lives of many cats. A little research convinced me that the way to go is to feed fresh chicken or rabbit, possibly ground. I admit I haven't gone that route yet but have no doubt it would be the best thing for my cats.

It's possible to buy them expensive cat food that is mainly wild game. I tried that once with one of my cats but she wasn't interested in it. Perhaps if I got a new cat I'd consider starting out that way.
I did wind up feeding that cat and another one a prescription canned cat food that I had to get from the vet. Forget what it cost, but it seemed worthwhile at the time.

(49,007 posts)You don't have to mix in a lot.
There is a reason why cats and dogs eat grass and like things like berries (certainly some dogs): they are instinctively supplementing their diet with anti-oxidants and digestive aids.

(20,252 posts)No longer with us on earth. I do believe 'translated' back to The Creator to await the renewal/restoration of creation. This, what I believe, softens the blow when they repose, sometimes under the comfort of your hands.
Texie, our boy, wouldn't eat wet kit food after awhile, except for treats and very little kibble. He lived on 'people' tuna in water! Doc 'scratched his head' when he found out.
I want to see them again.
