Young Sheldon is supposed to be the prequel to the Big Bang Theory with Jim Parsons narrating his life as a boy. I was truly insulted by it. Where as Big Bang is funny and smart, this just took all the standing jokes from Big Bang and included how to torture a gifted child who's definitely on the spectrum. Was not treated well, no heart - and yes, it did remind me of my childhood.
On the other hand, I really liked the Good Doctor - smart, heartwarming, also uncomfortable but well done. Unfortunately, it's opposite Scorpion so I'll keep flipping back and forth (I hope they move the Good Doctor to the 8pm CST slot).
I guess Asperger's and Autism and other variations on the spectrum are "in". Glad people are addressing it, but some are doing it better than others.

(5,191 posts)The kids is too cute and doesn't act like Sheldon would have acted. I laughed maybe twice during the whole show!

(6,075 posts)The jokes are funny and the actors are likeable, but the core of the show is "let's make fun of Sheldon's condition."

(16,646 posts)I was amazed that it lasted through its first two years because it was basically making fun of Asperger's. For what ever reason, they started introducing new characters to move it beyond that somewhat.
As for Young Sheldon, I always give shows a few episodes to develop. The first few have so much character development to do. I do wonder though how they can stick to the "cannon" of the BBT. Dad is supposed to be a raging alcoholic who has huge vocal battles with his mother. There is supposed to be some emotional abuse from Dad to Sheldon. And they seem to be setting up the older brother for a significant role and I don't really even remember him HAVING an older brother.

(16,646 posts)He's got a twin sister, and an older brother. As I say, that doesn't seem consistent with the cannon.

(16,646 posts)Not exactly a faithful "fan". Truth is I get as much exposure through reruns as anything. They do them practically within a week these days.

(3,569 posts)Didn't like it. Understandably a pilot episode needs to accomplish character identification and development, set up premise and plot etc and ofttimes nothing like the rest of the series, but this one? I'll give it one more shot. The constant anti Christianity jokes, with Sheldon attacking it intellectually, will turn a LOT of people off I think as well. It was for me and I'm the least Bible, religion, good whatever person ever.
The worst was the Kevin James show, which inexplicably killed off his wife and inserted Leah Reminiscent as his something or other. Leah? Well she flat looks weird.and even with that, she is still ten million miles over Kevin James, now bearded and fatter, version of Kevin James, level. Last year this show was watchable. Now? NOT!
Me, Myself and I. Hmmm, this show is intriguing. Facing the same challenges that Young Sheldon faced, but doing it seemlessly. I think this will be the big winner so far this year.
I missed Big Bang Theory. I'm sure I know how it goes, and with this being a final year you know the plot points. I'll watch, laugh once or twice.
