(2,404 posts)Highly underappreciated song. Lyrically profound with the music to match. There is a certain sadness to this song... The honoring of your enemy's courage.

I was surprised, as well. I always loved this song, but never knew who did it.

(65,168 posts). . . called Salty Dog. Pretty catchy tune, but was never big like Whiter or Conquistador.

(65,168 posts). . .that was Robin Trower on guitar. But, Dave Grabham i believe was the one who played guitar on the live version with the London Symphony Orchestra. I had both albums.

(5,914 posts)It is awesome. I really didn't know much of anything about these guys, but I was waxing nostalgic over the sound of old ELO songs and heard somewhere that this album sort of recaptures that, being early 70s prog rock and all. I plan to explore their work in more depth.
I love discovering "new" bands and music. I used to feel sorry for myself that there's never anything decent played on the radio and that 99% of popular music today sucks, absolutely. I am exhausted by "classic rock" stations that play the same five Pink Floyd tunes in power rotation, ignoring everything else they ever did.
Recently I've been leveraging the power of streaming music on the Internet to try out bands that I either a) was never aware of or b) never appreciated the first time they were around. Procol Harum is one of those. Frank Zappa is another. I honestly thought that Zappa just did profane novelty songs, but I was obviously wrong.

(2,404 posts)Look for the deep cuts on any of the "trilogy" albums (Songs From The Woods, Heavy Horses or Minstrel In The Gallery). Underrated band.

(5,914 posts)Jethro Tull is another band that I grew up with on the periphery as a kid, but I really didn't know anything about them. Aqualung and Bungle in the Jungle are all the songs I'm familiar with, as those were the only songs I heard growing up. Those are great songs! I will delve into their work, as well.

(65,168 posts)I'm going to suggest his "Shut Up And Play Your Guitar" series
Some good playing there! Pretty sure those were 100% instrumental
