The story of today's illegal downloading / copyright infringement letter from my ISP

I know more about the legalities of illegal downloading than any 5 people I know put together.

So imagine my surprise today when I got the letter from my ISP, the standard "copyright infringement, we have been alerted to the fact that you may have blah blah blah blah."

So I called them immediately. They found fourteen instances between August and the end of September, and some days had five to 10 violations per day.

I asked them to pick a day and tell me what was downloaded.

He named off 5 episodes of "The Last Ship." I don't even know what the fuck "The Last Ship" is.

And I tod him that, and I told him that it was proof to me that this wasn't my girlfriend or I, and that I wanted to change our WiFi password.

I know who did it. It was her idiot fucking 40 year old son, who uses the questionable apps and websites to watch movies and TV shows, some of which do nothing more than DOWNLOAD a pirated torrent, and people who do this shit without a VPN get...CAUGHT,

So when I changed the password it immediately shut down their TV, and the pissing and moaning started.

I build Websites for a living. If my ISP kills my account, they kill me.

So I told my girlfriend "You and I are the only ones who are going to have this, and if he goes on your computer and grabs the password, I am calling the cops."

She finally told him today "How can you be OK with the idea of your own mother evicting you?"

He yelled "Go ahead and evict me. It will take you three months and I won't pay you a penny during that time."

We are going to court on Oct 24...I got a summons today...over the girlfriend's arrest on disturbing the peace. He got arrested too. The sheriffs took my name and contact info, as well as my girlfriend's. After today's events, we're going to answer every one of the judge's questions...thoroughly.

I am going to do this on my girlfriend's computer later. That way, when he sneaks on there to grab it, it will just be dots, without a "show characters" option.

He is reality challenged and cannot face a world where his white privilege gets him the cushy job.

He move in at the beginning of June, under the premise that he was going to get his act together and a place of his own.

It is now October.

He has no intention of leaving unless we evict him, and we will.

... until the guy moves out. It sounds like this guy is a classic moocher so he probably has password-beating pirated software.

Also I'll guarantee you that he knows what a VPN is and why he needed one. He's too cheap to take the precaution, and he knew you'd be the one to get caught, not him.

I actually had to go to a client yesterday and ask for an advance on a project I'm doing for him so I could pay the Internet bill. The son is supposed to be paying us $100 a week. This week, he stiffed us. Our Internet was scheduled to be shut off at 5 PM today. We would be purged from the system and would have to sign up for a new account, pay the current month, pay the past due, and pay re-connection fees, so the $99 bill would have become a $250 bill, plus they'd run a credit check on us.

She told him this and he shrugged his shoulders.

I paid the bill this morning at 11 AM.

When I cut off the internet he started yelling and whining like a baby.

So yeah, I am going to keep a VERY close eye on all of this. The registry hack I shared above will help prevent his snooping eyes from grabbing the password. And if he does, I'll just change it daily, and call the sheriff again.

why does he have to watch pirated stuff? There is plenty of legal entertainment he can watch.

Also, "The Last Ship" is available for free on TNT. Why do you need to illegally download it?
