(32,669 posts)David Letterman became a much better interviewer when he transitioned from Late,Late to the 11:30 slot. By that I mean he listened more to his guests, and maybe the snarky comments were toned down a little bit. (He's always funny during the stand-up segment though.) Sometimes the interviewer has to be the straight man and the guest gets most of the funny lines.
So it looks like his new show will be more of a Dick Cavett-style "conversation" with one guest. Jokes and hilarity will ensue, but also some seriousness. I hope he gets good guests, and I think he will be great.

(27,827 posts)then I saw a clip from his show (a reenactment, actually) in the movie about Andy Kaufman, "Man on the Moon"..where Kaufman, (played by Jim Carey) uses profanity to insult professional wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler on Letterman's show, then picks up Letterman's coffee cup and throws the coffee at Lawler. to which Letterman says something like:
"I think you can say some of those words on TV, but you NEVER throw coffee!"
(I was a Letterman fan from then on).
