The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsDoes anyone here do Beachbody?
I know this is a strange place to ask ... but it seems like all the Facebook groups are full of fans-of-the-orange-megalomaniac-pretend-president and/or pervs and/or religious nuts. The programs are good, but the groups really suck. So I figured if I wanted to find a group that at least leans more liberal, someone on DU might know. Anyone?

(4,492 posts)And many MLMs target conservative women (in religious circles) as their 'independent consultants."
MLMs are one of the reasons I left FB.

(14,643 posts)Yes, it is an MLM. And I've been suspicious. I think you're right about who they target. Many of the members I've had contact with are stay-at-home moms with a high school education. IOW, not degreed professional women. Sure, there are men too, but it turns out that many of them join the groups so they can see pics of cleavage. (And, yes, they are older than 12.)
I do have one FB friend who is definitely not conservative, and we're being each other's support group at this point.

(72,378 posts)I was recruited by a beach body coach when I started there, but it wasn't for me. Lost about 150lbs anyway. The workouts look cool, but I haven't tried any of them. I am more of a walker.
AirmensMom
(14,643 posts)I will check that out.
I actually joined and have had a lot of success. The workouts really are good and there's something for everyone. I have all kinds of equipment, but wasn't getting results with it. Now I'm getting results and really want to stick with it. I just wish I could be with more like-minded people.
Enjoy your walking! I like it too and could do just that if only it would work for me.

(72,378 posts)will probably like the fitness forums, and maybe weight gain/body building if you lift. And there are groups, too, but you need to search for your interests like Piyo or what have you.
Send me a friend request and let me know it's you.

Controversy
In a 2015 posting to Cosmopolitan.com, Michelle Ruiz reports that some call Team BeachBody a "scheme".
She quotes Marion Nestle, PhD, a professor of nutrition and food studies at New York University, as saying:
"It never ceases to amaze me that anyone would fall for anything like this. ... It's about making money."

As for your comment:
... it seems like all the Facebook groups are full of fans-of-the-orange-megalomaniac-pretend-president
and/or pervs and/or religious nuts
At last count, I have 1,045 friends on Facebook, none of whom are as you describe,
and all of whom hate Trump and none of whom are religious nuts (or I would have un-friended them)

(14,643 posts)And if you can't get to a gym, the streaming workouts are really good. No, I'm not recruiting members and have no interest in doing so. I just want to stream the workouts and maybe talk to some other people who do the same.
I meant all the Facebook groups for Beachbody. These people are not my friends, they're just in the same fitness groups. I just had to block a perv in one group and the religious shit that gets posted (in a fitness group!) gets sickening. And just yesterday one member friended me and wanted to be my coach, but when I saw her FB page, I un-friended her rather quickly. She's sickeningly religious AND a Trump supporter...which I still can't wrap my mind around.
