Related: About this forumThanks to some folks from the "Labor Movement" group..........
the membership in our little Red Haven has jumped by five overnight to 251. We welcome all of you comrades from that group and I encourage all the members of THIS group to join up there. Maybe we can jointly figure out how to right this sinking ship that is the working class!
And don't forget to cross post anything of interest.

(200 posts)While I realize that we may share a number of the same goals, I am unable to share your enthusiasm for socialism/communism. In essence, this site is a place for Democrats and most of us are not Socialists or Communist.
The innate problem with a two party system is that the fringe elements (both on the Left and Right) infiltrate the the two major parties in order to gain a voice. The Republicans have this problem in spades with a large number of kooks who have jumped on their band wagon. However, we seem to have our own, albeit lesser, problems too.
Communism and it's kissing cousin, Socialism don't work and never have. Our very Constitution would make the effective implementation of either of the ideologies unconstitutional in many areas and impractical in others.
Communists and socialist elements in our party do not help to strengthen the party as they are generally considered to be miserable merchants of unwanted ideas who are merely using the credibility of the Democratic brand to take them to some logical jumping off point. The problem is that they damage the Democratic brand in the process.
I have no problem with you being a "socialist" "Comrade". I just wish you would (and hope you do) confine your socialist/communist pursuits to those parties and not my great Democratic Party.

(864 posts)Socialists ... "are generally considered to be miserable merchants of unwanted ideas". Yeah, those unwanted ideas like the 8 hour day, like the right to form a labor union and collectively bargain for wages and working conditions, like restrictions on child labor, like publicly owned electric cooperatives. Are you really that ignorant about the contributions of socialists, both those that work within the Democratic Party and those that don't? Did you ever hear of Michael Harrington, Victor Reuther, Barbara Ehrenreich, the great Congressman Ron Dellums? All self identified socialists and all made significant contributions to our nation and to the Democratic Party.

You know a lot about how this site functions for someone that's been here a day.

(11,481 posts)BTW, in case anyone is wondering that's only the first poster that I've blocked from here so it's not like I make a habit of it. In fact only 3 people have EVER been blocked from the SP group. This block was for "red baiting". That is one of our few rules. It's OK to disagree, but it's NOT OK to throw around "Commie" and "Socialist" as a slur. Not here.

(7,321 posts)I was way too close to losing it on that poster. talk about classic red-baiting, it felt like we were back in the 50's and 60's with that ridiculously unthinking piece of tripe.
I know how you feel. ((2banon))
