Apparently (according to this report) some unrest is spreading to the western part of Ukraine. It also highlights potentially instability in the regular Ukrainian army. This, of course, leads the Kiev coup into using more and more of the fascist "irregular" troops to try an put down the uprising in the east. I'm convinced that the Ukrainian people, even in the western part of the country are NOT supporters in general of the fascists and this reliance on the part of the coup will lead to opposition to their rule even in the west.
It also mentions our comrades in Barotba. This is the second mention of them in a "third party" (not Barotba or League) type of publication, article or blog. They need to get their message out there and this is encouraging, since the EU and US media is still carrying on the "Cold War II" type of meme.

(32,064 posts)it is crystal clear to those who have been paying attention and watching the imperialists do this for decades in various parts of the world:
In terms of the result they have succeeded, if electing a president with 45 per cent of the population failing to take part can be called a success. The new president Petro Poroshenko is a billionaire oligarch who has worked with both sides of the Ukrainian political divide. He supported the Maidan and the Orange revolution but was also a founder of ousted President Viktor Yanukovychs Party of the Regions.
Germany will be delighted that he has promised to sign the second part of the EU deal and begin implementing its economic reforms. Meanwhile the US still has the government its coup installed. Under the 2004 constitution, the prime miniter Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the Svoboda ministers and Right Sector chiefs of the security apparatus will retain their powers undiminished. In short the regime itself has not changed one iota through Poroshenkos election. This can be seen from the fact that, while he was elected promising to re-unite the country and end the military offensive against the east, the reality has been a savage all-out offensive against Donetsk, with helicopter gunships and paratroops

(11,481 posts)I've been real proud of the League and their positions on Ukraine. They've been consistent and principled in what anyone would call a murky situation. They've identified the one group that is closest to our positions (Barotba) and thrown all of our meager support behind them. And nope the election of Petro doesn't change the composition of the government one iota. And the rejection of the fascist and ultra-nationalist parties in the "Presidential" elections doesn't change the make-up of the government one iota either. Fascists still control some VERY important posts in government and they will be VERY difficult to dislodge if and when, they fulfill their mission of smashing the opposition in the east.
In one of our BS session at our recent national conference we were talking about Ukraine and how difficult it will be to put a workers' government into power. I postulated that the BEST outcome would be to try to do so in the east and HOPE that it spread to the west in a few months. Since the various imperialisms will hopefully be too scared of disrupting the economies in the area with a war over Ukraine, hopefully they stay out and leave the Ukrainians to it. I still think that would be the only way it happens. But unfortunately, I don't think it's a likely scenario.
