He won the world's hearts playing young Forrest Gump but Michael Humphreys' parents were too poor to buy Oscars tickets - and he chose career in uniform, just like character he played

Michael Conner Humphreys played Forrest Gump as a child in the movie which dominated the 1995 Oscars

Tom Hanks was named best actor, and the film was best picture but Michael Humphreys' family couldn't afford the tickets

They watched on television at home in Mississippi as the movie swept the Hollywood ceremony

Instead of acting, Humphreys followed in his character's footsteps and enlisted in the US Army, serving as a specialist in combat in Iraq
He now plans a new career and has followed Forrest in another way - taking part in 10k as people shouted 'run Forrest, run'!'
