More on Ray Harryhausen ...

The LA Times published a long article which was picked up or excerpted by various papers around the country; the full version has some info not found in our local paper, including connections to Dr. Seuss and 4SJ:

Lots of videos of his work are on the Web now, here are several in one blog:

I only now realized that some old ViewMaster slides we looked at in my childhood probably featured scenes from Harryhausen's early project "Evolution", which he never completed. Wish we had kept them.

Harryhausen and other stop-action film makers of his time worked for a very forgiving audience, willing to engage their suspension of disbelief. So what if the animation wasn't perfect? If it added to the fantasy and enjoyment that was enough.

Films like Thief Of Bagdad and King Kong benefited from this as well as the films of Harryhausen (IMO the best of them all. His sword wielding skeletons are inspired.) His movies can be enjoyed even in this day of the incredibly 'real' CGI.

RIP
