where they pretty much wrote it on the fly and filmed multiple endings including one where Rick got on the plane, probably not. they could never have captured the magic.
Apparently no one liked the script once the movie started filming and it was changed again and againCasablanca Facts

In the 1980s, this film's script was sent to readers at a number of major studios and production companies under its original title, Everybody Comes To Rick's. Some readers recognized the script but most did not. Many complained that the script was "not good enough" to make a decent movie. –IMDB

So, no I don't think they could make a sensible film out of it.

2. We're talking about a sequel. IMO a sequel would've been made just for the money it would make

I'm intrigued. Rick and Louie's story could have been the first "buddy movie.

Tremors - have a sequel and is not as funny, doesn't cheapen the original movie because it was just a rip off and I can ignore it, but in this case, a cheap sequel would annoy me. sorry, just an opinion.

But they made a movie with the same cast. I think it was called Action in the North Atlantic. Wasn't very good. Lightning doesn't strike twice.

6. I'm actually all right with leaving it all to the viewers' imaginations.

Also, given what Aljean Harmetz has written about the making of the movie, which other DUers echo in this thread, it seems Casablanca stands as one of those wonders of timing, trial and error, and talent.

There have been efforts to recreate it, and there's more story to tell, but as far as I'm concerned, no one should touch it. Let it stand.

Besides, not only won't there be another Claude Rains or Humphrey Bogart, there will never be another S.Z. Sakall, Peter Lorre or Sydney Greenstreet, either.

Got the DVD from NetFlix. It has been years, but I couldn't stop watching it over and over.

The cast is brilliant, the script, crackling! Thankfully Huston stuck close to Hammett's dialog.

But Lorre and Greenstreet help make the movie what it is. Plus, Eliza Cook Jr. and Mary Astor. A better ensemble cast one could not beg for. It justly deserves its reputation.

And Bogie at his best.

There will be a sequel, with computer-generated actors indistinguishable from live actors.
