But I wish they would have chosen to show her comedy chops with a John Wayne film (McClintock or The Quiet Man)...

The only film she did with Wayne was ROOSTER COGBURN (1975)
I think you're thinking of Maureen O'Hara; she starred with Wayne in MCCLINTOCK and THE QUIET MAN.

TCM has included screwball comedy, biopics, ensemble pieces.
And this is not a complaint, but Hepburn starred in one of my all-time favorite dramas, The Lion in Winter, as a savagely funny Eleanor of Aquitaine negotiating dynastic, political, and personal problems as matriarch of a singularly dysfunctional family. It's missing from the schedule today but will no doubt turn up again soon.
