Just picked up the 1931 version of "The Maltese Falcon".

Bought it on Vudu (it's $5 if you buy two others in their 3 for $15 mix and match. I think it's $7.99 if you buy it separately). Anyway, I was completely unfamiliar with it. It's quite different from the Bogart version. It's very typical pre-code. For one, Sam Spade is quite the womanizer.

Here's a scene:

I'm still watching it, but so far I really like it. (I'm a big fan of pre-code, anyway.) ificandream Apr 6 #2

Twenty years after the events of the novel "The Maltese Falcon," Sam Spade has retired in the small town of Bozouls in southern France; it's 1963, the war has ended, and in a very short time, so, too, will Spade's tranquility.
