and later heard that she and her husband are 'falling apart from no sleep.' I encouraged her to check out Mozart, she said she will, so I'm crossing my fingers and looking forward to positive results.

THANKS!

Elleng:
just between us, you can't provide the music, that's up to his parents. You can send a player and CDs til the cows come home, but his parents have to turn it on.
Let's hope they share your love of the Classical, then your wonderful looking grandson(I saw his photo on the photo forum) will grow up with it and be more well rounded than many.

Story time:
My grandson was three when both these incidents happened. He grew up with his mother and father who are now divorced. Classical music actually was involved because his mother, an oboist, made off with a cellist. His mom taught piano and oboe and flute and played the classics all the time.

My son and the little one were in a shoestore, I was with them, so this is first hand reporting. Hank Williams Jr. was loud through the air. Grandson stopped. Listened. Said, LOUD: "Daddy, turn that off please. Is really sucks."

Another time, in a clothing store, elevator music. He said: please turn that music off, it's making me sick. Of course the music kept playing. A little later he was on his back, like a little bug struggling with his legs in the air.
We said: Ivan, get up. What's the matter with you. He said: "Call an ambulance, I told you this music is making me sick."

So Elleng, your intention is wonderful. I hope they play Mozart and Beethoven and Liszt and Chopin. You will just have to deal with the consequences.

Grandson is now in Arts School. UNCSA

and remind/ask my daughter about it. After all, I/we provided it for our girls, among other things took them to Kennedy Center concerts and shows. And daughter loves Grandpa (my Dad,) who provided us with our piano!

As Dad also started me and brother Bill on lifelong engagement with 'showtunes,' so that we know them all, from the first musicals, daughters developed an affinity, and Eddie's mother starred in high school musicals, I do think there's a decent chance, but do have to get this foot in the NJ sports-fans door!

Fortunately no illness claimed by mine due to bad music! FUNNY story! My daughters have commented on how GOOD MY (generation's) music was/is, compared with theirs and what's around now. I'll accept THOSE consequences!

EDIT: They'll probably spend time with me in MD, at the cottage, spring/summertimes, so will have time then!

A few more suggestions

If you are going to have Dave Brubeck, you cannot omit Take Five

Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, at least the first movement, is essential

One of my favorite bits of Mozart, the Laudamus Te from the Great Mass in C, as sung by Anne Sofie von Otter

Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor

How about some Boccherini?

Gassenhauer by Carl Orff

One you may not know, Mark O'Connor's Appalachia Waltz

The King's Singer's take on the Overture to the Barber of Seville, which is simply a lot of fun

WOULDN'T omit Take Five! But included Time Out because I was so excited when I realized it's a rendition of Mozart's Rondo, I play them together whenever I can!

Beethoven's Pastoral playing on TV now, will DEFINITELY include it!
