And I was only 5-6 y.o. at the time ... but I remember them FROM that year, or very soon thereafter, as a lot of these songs stayed as 'hits' on the radio for many years in the aftermath of their release.
I would definitely quibble with the ORDERING (Gilbert O' Sullivan being above David Bowie (and so many others) is way wrong ... and Crocodile Rock over Rocket Man? And Superstition is the obvious #1 here) ...
But just to make it clear what an absurdly good year for music this was ... the following are not in the list ... which I humbly protest ...
1) Tumblin' Dice - Rolling Stones
2) And You and I - Yes
3) Melissa - Allman Brothers
4) Operator - Jim Croce
5) I'll Take You There - Staple Singers
6) Do It Again - Steely Dan
7) Take It Easy - Eagles
8) Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon
9) Use Me - Bill Withers
10) Down By The Lazy River - The Osmonds
Anyways, what a great, great year of music. Very fun to watch ... Every time you think 'wow, THIS song CANT be so low on the list' ... and then you hear the next few and go 'oh, well ... those were ALSO great ...'
