(837 posts)I think when the time machine is invented, I will definitely have to set the controls to see him play live.

(9,651 posts)It was just as amazing as you would expect.
Every time I hear his music, I am happy and sad.
So sad for all the music that would have come, so sad that this incredibly talented man was taken from all of us way too soon.
But damn, you can't not be happy when you are listening to his music. His music takes my soul to another world.

(3,064 posts)It was on Greenville Avenue around Northwest Highway and Park Lane.
Stevie Ray and Double Trouble would play every Monday night, I believe. There may or may not have been a dollar cover charge. Hell, it was 40 years ago.
Did see him at Antone's in Austin but the most memorable joint I remember him playing in Austin was Soap Creek Saloon. Mid '70's.
Now that was a hell of a hippie roadhouse. Everybody in the Austin music scene played Soap Creek.
It was out in the sticks past the city limits on Bee Cave Road. On a dirt road in the hills.
It's long gone and some dot.com multimillionaire's digs probably cover the spot where it once stood.

(9,651 posts)I could just picture him playing in a place like that. Perfect for his music.

(18,770 posts)No one knew who he was in Auburn at the time.
The year before, this Irish rock band played at the local community college in Auburn. Barely no one showed. It was U2...

(935 posts)Every time I saw him, (4 times) he would do a little spiel about how we're all here to take care of each other, and when someone's down, you gotta pick 'em up. The last time I saw him he was with Joe Cocker and then two weeks later he was gone. I bought a sweatshirt because it was an outdoor venue and I got cold, (Pine Knob near Detroit) and I am so glad I did.

Left around 11 and took close to three hours to get home.
Woke up around 8 and first news we saw on channel 7 was that he was dead.
Bummer ending to a great night!
