Doug Sahm was a legend even before he formed The Sir Douglas Quintet with Augie Meyers. He first played country music.
He was a musical prodigy, making his radio debut at age five. He was onstage with Hank Williams Sr. at his last performance in Austin.

In 1965 when "She's About a Mover" was released the British Invasion was so dominant that the band name Sir Douglas Quintet was chosen to assure decent airplay.

It worked but the tune's obvious Tex Mex sound along with Doug's Texas accent was a giveaway for anyone who gave it any thought.

The kids watching them on Shindig or Hullabaloo could have cared less but us kids in San Antone just grinned and enjoyed.

Doug died in 1999 in Taos, New Mexico of a heart attack at the age of 58. Great talent, Texas music legend.
