There is so much music from that region that tickles our (American) sensibilities because that is where the music that evolved into everything we listen to came from.

But now there is a new class of musicians that know the old music but grew up listening to Prince or Stevie Ray Vaughn, and are incorporating Jazz R&B Blues and Rock into west African music

It is amazing. The song in my OP is pretty traditional, but Songhoy Blues Bombino and others are re-creating hard rock

Even just the drumming tradition could fill a lifetime of study. But as a banjo player, I especially love all of the stringed gourd instruments.
