the saints - see you in paradise (studio-1986) i wore out the grooves to this record literally

I remember blasting it on the 101 on my way off to school in SLO-town in 1986 on the cassette player in my 1972 240Z ... I know damn near every word to every song on it, still after all these years.

There were lots of great alt-rock guitar bands from down-under in the 80's ... Crowded House/Split Enz, Hoodoo Gurus, The Church, Midnight Oil ... and of course INXS.

These guys sadly never really had a hit song, but honestly this whole album (All Fools Day) is brilliant.

This is probably the only song of theirs anyone in the world but the guys in the band (and me) actually maybe know, and that's cause Springsteen has covered it ... also a killer track, the opener on All Fools Day.

There's two music vids of this song (int'l and US versions) but neither sounds as good as this upload, so ...

But I'm quite sure Just Like Fire Would is their best known song in general, cause The Boss covered it on his record High Hopes in 2013 or thereabouts.

And here all this time I thought I was the only one who'd ever heard of these guys. Now I know there's TWO people

A much underappreciated band, in my esteem, if for no other reason than All Fools Day is a masterpiece. And the follow-up Prodigal Son is also pretty damn solid as well. I still have both on vinyl around here somewhere ... and some of their early punk is also great stuff.

of the earlier punk stuff but I'm probably a decade younger so when I was into punk in the 90's I was amazed that one of the biggest early punk bands was Australian and they were always an inspiration.

Definitely underappreciated, The Church are another that fall in that category to me. Many of the others you mentioned were quite big in Australia but I never knew how that translated internationally. And the Oil's, gotta love some Midnight Oil.

But really it wasn't until recently I have started appreciating The Saints later work, now I have a playlist with all those you songs posted and I'm finding so much more great music these days that I missed first time around.
Spotify helps.

I had a playlist with a bunch of later-era Saints I made probalby 5 years back, now all the songs are gone off it

I never was a huge punk dude ... I kinda liked the idea and ethos and diy aspect more than I generally liked punk, at least the hardcore stuff. I liked lots of punk-ish bands though over the years for sure. Fugazi would be a good example.

However, there are certain true punk songs that I love ... this might be my favorite of all time that's not the Ramones ... of course it's Cali Punk!
