Brian Jonestown Massacre appreciation

Somebody made this awesome playlist from Hove Festival 2008 on youtube. It has 11 songs in it.

I like this band but I haven't heard all their music because they have alot.

No big deal but why is the drummer so much younger than all the other guys?

What are some other good songs by Brian Jonestown Massacre?

Is it because you want to forget the images from Guyana, and the band name reminds you of it? limpyhobbler Apr 2012 #2

I guess I get the whole "shock value" of picking such a provocative name. There were The Dead Kennedys for example. And my entire childhood was marked by the senseless and horrific deaths of JFK and RFK (among other violent assassinations--including MLK-- and the carnage of Vietnam)

But to this day, I can never get the image, the horror of those countless women, children and men--dead, bloating and rotting in the Guyana jungle out of my mind.

So, I'm going to have to admit that no matter how great their music might be, I'm just not able to get past that.

Or do you maybe think they are exploiting the tragic name for shock value just to make money?

FWIW I had pretty much the same reaction as you when a friend was talking about them back in the 90s. But changed my mind later after I saw the movie, the Dig! documentary that came out about 10 years ago.

They could be the most talented group in the world, but that just makes me cringe.
