Legendary music show Wheeling Jamboree returns to Valley

WHEELING, W.Va. — The second most famous country music show in the U.S. is set to return to Wheeling soon.

Wheeling Jamboree Inc. and Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack announced on Thursday that the World's Original Wheeling Radio Jamboree is "fulfilling a long overdue homecoming in Wheeling entertainment and tourism."

Starting Oct. 6, the Wheeling Jamboree will present its weekly live country music stage show on Saturdays from the Wheeling Island Showroom.

The Jamboree can also be heard live worldwide via its streaming Internet feed, by video on demand, via a free smart phone player and on a syndicated radio broadcast.

=====

For those who haven't heard of it, the Wheeling Jamboree on WWVA was a popular music show that broadcasted from about 1927 until about 2005. It had a really powerful signal that was sort of aimed north and east, away from Nashville. I've met people from as far away as Nova Scotia who told me they were able to get the signal and listened to it as kids.

It was revived for a few years and then died again in about 2008 or 2009. Here is a little doc from WV Public TV:
