I find the blend of Glass and Shankar interesting. I hear them both in this piece. Glass' minimalist influence is certainly present. I am listening to a few other pieces from the album, I like it

Minimalism is one of those genres which can produce hauntingly beautiful works and brilliant examinations of sound and rhythm. It can also be grating and boring at times. I participated in an independent study of 19th and 20th century American classical music in college. I remember the first time I heard "Its Gonna Rain" and "Music for 18 Musicians" by Steve Reich. It was amazing. I realized that I heard this type of music before... on Sesame Street of Electric Company. I couldnt remember which. It was the 90s long before the ability to surf the web and get your answer immediately. thank you for posting this and sending me down memory lane. 😀

I think Glass will be recognized as one of the greatest composers of the past 50 years.

My personal favorites of his are The photographer, Liquid Days, Metamorphosis and Music in 12 parts and his score for Fog of War ( the documentary) is compelling.

At Spoleto several years ago. And they had a half hour audience Q&A after the performance.
A few years after that they had a show of Glass’s music with art work by Leonard Cohen projected on a screen.

Glass was hired by a film production to transcribe/arrange some Indian music (which is typically not written down) so that a French orchestra could play it for the score. Glass has said that studying the rhythmic arrangement of Indian music was one of the biggest milestones in developing his early minimalist style.
