I notice there's a thread on how to post images to DU here: https://www.democraticunderground.com/103659987 . For posting images from your computer, it covers using Imgur. For those who use (or may want to use) Flickr, here's a tutorial. I've included instructions for using both a PC and a phone. Hope this is helpful.
FROM A PC:
1. Upload your image to your Photostream on Flickr and go to your photostream
2. [Easy method as suggested by urbanhermit - see post #6) - click on the download button. It should show the various download resolutions. Right-click on the resolution you want and copy the link address. This is the direct link that can be used without needing to shorten it. If you're on a phone, however, there doesn't appear to be a download button on the mobile version of the Flickr site (or I just don't know where it is.). So, if you're using a PC, use urbanhermit's suggestion.
3. Paste the link into the message.
FROM A PHONE
- Upload your image to your photostream.
- If you're on the mobile site and follow the steps above and tap on the share icon
You'll probably get something like this:
There does not appear to be a download button so we can't use the same method as the PC using the mobile version of the site on the phone.
The link it copies is not the BBCode and there's no option to get the BBCode. The BBCode contains the link you want (along with some extra stuff that you'll have to strip out). Here's how to get around that.
- What you need to do in a nutshell is to switch from the mobile site to the desktop site. I'm using Chrome so how to do this might be a bit different for other browsers.
- tap on the menu option for the browser tab. In Chrome, it's the three vertical dots in the upper right
- this should bring up a menu something like this:
- tap on Desktop site and it should switch you over. Note that you might need to make use of the zoom afterwards.
- navigate to your photostream. The rest of the steps are exactly the same as uploading for PC. Which should be no surprise, as you're using the PC version of the site. To get the context menu that lets you copy the link, press and hold the resolution you want (as you can't right-click).

(18,652 posts)I tried it and it pastes a lot of crap but the essential part is the http.... .jpg and that still follows the pattern we gotta use here.

(1,407 posts)I work with computers all day (computer programmer) and some days I believe the only good thing about them is that they keep me employed. They've definitely made some difficult/cumbersome things simpler but also some simpler things more difficult/cumbersome.

(751 posts)I use flickr on my computer but get the url in a different manner. Where you go to the share in step 2, I use the download icon which is the next one over. I click on the download icon, then click on view all sizes. On the next page, it loads the large 1024 image. I just right click to copy image address and paste it into DU. Saves the effort of shortening the URL.

(1,407 posts)I didn't realize that the download gave you the direct link. I've updated the tutorial to use your method. There doesn't seem to be a download button on the mobile site so I've left most of that portion intact. Unless I'm missing something, there doesn't seem to be to get the proper link from the mobile site.
