Bald Eagles!

I crossed a big item off my bucket list this week. I went to visit a bald eagle family that lives about ninety minutes from home. It was worth getting up at 4:30 A.M. Several of these shots were enhanced with AI for sharpness and clarity. To be honest, I would have been perfectly happy sitting there without a camera.

I love bald eagles, and these are great shots.

Such majestic birds. I forget who suggested the bald eagle as our national symbol, but I think it was a great choice!

the bald eagle as our symbol. But I do remember that Ben Franklin wanted it to be the turkey. I'm sure the turkey tastes better!

Nothing against turkeys, or Ben Franklin, but I'm happy to stick with the eagles, no matter what they may taste like!

they have cameras on the eagles' nest and you watch them preparing the nest each year, laying eggs, seeing if the eggs hatch, seeing which survive, seeing what happens when the baby eagle flies for the first time (sometimes it's too soon and they don't make it.) This year's survivor seems to be in quite good shape, (phew!)

But your pix were astounding.

Those are great shots! I see eagles all the time but I don't get many good pictures of them. Those are really good. So what if you cleaned them up a bit?

Such majestic creatures. We need to be seriously mindful of the other life forms with which we share this planet. It hurts to think about the cavalier attitudes of Repubs and other arrogant but clueless humans. WAAAAY too many in willful denial.

Terrific photos, Grumpy Old Guy! Real treasures. Thanks for posting them here!

Bald eagles don't develop a full white head until they're about four years old. These two dark birds are fledgelings who first left their nest about a week ago. It will still be a while before they can survive on their own.

Been watching a couple fledge these past weeks (Decorah and Two Harbors Catalina) and I can see how July 4th, freedom, and bald eagles are connected.

Watched these birds hatch and now they are flying around with their patents. So amazing to watch.

Great photos, thanks for sharing.
