But, every good picture needs a point of interest. Add a boat, a whale, a sea bird....something as a point of interest and it will be a better picture. 
...Why not think of it as a painting then.
Paintings don't need a point of interest.
If it makes you happy, that's great. I was just giving you an opinion of a photographer teacher of many years.
but with us now approaching 80% of the Earth's surface being water....
This is also a picture of everything .
