Who knows about "firmware"?

Is is important to keep this updated on our cameras? I don't even know what it is. My 7D is version 1.1.0 or something like that, and I see they've got firmware versions 2 point whatever. Does it make any difference?

If your camera hangs up or other unexpected glitches, then you do need an update.

Just a warning, each time you update the firmware of any electronic device, it puts ware and tear on the EPROM chip. In your case, doing an update can shorten the life your camera.

Respond if you need more information...

That's why the driver update in Windows has an option to roll back your driver. Sometimes an update isn't the best idea.

Why fix something that works like it's supposed to?

Canon should be listing what each update fixes. However, the list is normally not complete.
