April contest theme ideas

it looks like i get to see if i can do 1/2 as good a job as Mira did running march's contest.
so im going to start looking for theme ideas early.
I had a couple of ideas so far and am looking for more

#1 action. could be sports, could be dancing, etc. something that shows action

#2 long exposures. an exposure of longer than 1/4 second

#3. after dark. any exposure taken after the end of twilight

im going to try and do blind submissions also since they worked so well

Not only because your photo was better than mine but because I am intimidated by running a contest.

Would that limit the potential field to people with dslr quality equipment? I'm not technologically deft, so hoping some others will weigh in.

it is a pocket camera that i use to take into concerts where they dont allow my dslr.. it can shoot exposures of up to 15 seconds long.

it really depends on the point and shoot.

our comfort zone, to learn something new, and be completely humiliated when the only vote you get is your own (that's happened to me). I've made some good night images with a point and shoot, a Canon G10.

If you don't have a tripod, you can sit your camera on a solid surface and use the self timer. Look in your manual to see if your camera has a built in ND filter. Some cameras do.

I've had my current camera for several years, but I still learn something new in the manual.

I have a d60. I was thinking about some of the people who use less sophisticated point and shoots. It has taken us a full year after the switch over to DU3 to regain our photo contest mojo and I just want to be as inclusive as we can. That's the only reason I brought it up. If people think that consumer point and shoots should have no problem setting exposure times, I'm fine with it. It just seemed like a pretty technical requirement to me.

Has capabilities for long exposure. The image may not match what one would get from a DSLR, but it won't be as big an issue at 800X600.

There is significant technique required to produce the type of shots that you have suggested.

Personally, I have been intrigued and shooting long exposures; coincidentally that take place after dark.

So for me, I am in favor of a (hybrid) of the two...?

Not sure how others feel, however that is what I feel.

Great shot last month, by the way!

I look forward to the April contest no matter how the theme pans out!

Good luck in hosting this month!

I like the idea - being a film noir fan and living in NYC this has the potential to really get me thinking about all the possible photos.

and in response to other people's quality of pic/camera

I came in 7th twice recently using a $5 throwaway!

I'm thinking of a theme -It's gonna be April right?

Let's try humour!

April Fools being the theme!

Laughter is after all,

the best medicine!
