(22,879 posts)The woman in the photograph would have full access to a good lawyer and the rule of law after the incident. African-American marchers in Birmingham were likely to get best up in jail (or worse) and denied access to the justice system.

(24,605 posts)I think pictures can be a far more powerful war "repellent" than any words. Only someone totally heartless could fail to be moved by pictures like these. Unfortunately too many warmongering members of congress manage to avert their eyes.

(9,314 posts)before photography most people couldn't afford an image of a loved one. If they didn't have someone who could paint or draw they had to pay someone to paint a portrait.
