To shoot the fog
at the rock farm in Las Posadas
when I stumbled across a barrel stave bridge to nowhere.
Further exploring, however, indicated that the bridge led to the historic village of the ancient tribe of Junior Woodchucks.
I also wanted to shoot mushrooms, but the 'shroomers had gotten there ahead of me and left little to shoot. I mean really, guys, if you don't want to pick to eat, leave them for the photogs.

(20,886 posts)to enhance the contrast, sharpness and/or color on these photos. This was a free download a few days ago (it may still be), and I think it's a terrific program. Easy to use with lots of presets that you can then fine tune.

(46,436 posts)but I can't use it because my video card driver doesn't support it. I'm either going to have to replace my card or wait for ATI to update. I'm really anxious to try this.

(20,886 posts)I think you'll be impressed. By the way, I think the guys in the tutorials push it too far, but that's the beauty of the program, you can push or back off as much as you want.

(9,314 posts)and you did them justice. I especially like the second shot.
Back in the film days, I took a double exposure shot of my husband in the fog. It's really eerie and it was so fun to do.

(20,886 posts)I keep revisiting that one. I almost didn't take it. I was on my way out and had the wrong lens on the camera.
I also switched my new tripod to a monopod. It really helped in a low light situation, yet was easy to carry along.

(31,392 posts)Your second shot has a really eerie feel to it...like something is going to come out of the fog from the distance.

(20,886 posts)I'd been waiting for some decent fog for a while. I love the air of mystery it creates. When I left my house visibility was so bad I almost turned back. By the time I got to the park, it was perfect.

(22,380 posts)reminded me of a fog painting in grey I once did. I gave it away. Never took a photo of it.
I'm surely glad you persevered in venturing out. The photos are keepers.

(19,459 posts)My dad ran the Las Posadas CDF station for almost 20 years. Spent many, many hours there growing up. Found quite a few arrowheads there.

(20,886 posts)Never thought of looking for arrowheads there. These days I spend most of my time on the upper level. I bet the arrowheads are to be found on the lower level. By the swimming hole, maybe.

(19,459 posts)My dad always said it was probably because the area was good for deer, etc. I don't know. There are grinding holes in the rocks on the plateau, so maybe it was a village site.
Napa Valley, Wooden Valley, Alexander Valley, etc., the whole region was pretty heavily populated before the Spanish/Russians/Mexicans/Americans came along.
We did lots of fishing down in the valley behind the station. There were still some bear living down there when I was a kid. Might very well still be.
