Oscar the Cat

One month ago today we said goodbye and there hasn't been a day between then and now that Karen and I haven't thought of him.

The diabetes, heart condition, kidney issues, and thyroid tumor finally became too much for us to balance. After a week at the vet, and one night at home watching him struggle we decided to let him go. He would have been 15 today.

I miss my Oscar cat...I miss my buddy...but most of all, I miss my friend...

Sorry everyone, I just had to get this off my chest.

Ray

He looks like a very lovely kitty. And he seems to have had a very pampered life. Hold on to your memories.

Overall he was a very gentle kitty, although not very adventurous. That was his brother, Felix. Night and day they were. Oscar would play, but almost never with his claws out. Felix, Felix would leave my hand bleeding and raw.

Thank you!

we could with all the different things he kept throwing at us. He was such a trouper when it came to his insulin shots. He would jump right up on the table and wait patiently (mostly) to get his medication, probably because he got his food after that. He was always very food oriented.

Thank you so much for the kind words, they really did help this week.

I know what it's like. Our family had three siblings (two littermates, plus one we think was from the litter before that) who lived with us since they moved in in 1997. We lost the first of them just after Christmas, and the second ten days ago. Now there's only the last one left, and the whole place seems empty.

Here is one of the last photos of them together -- long-timers will probably remember seeing other pictures posted here:

Clockwise from top left: The Great Pumpkin (1995? - 2014), Andrew (1996? - 2013), and Simon Peter (1996? - ).

to lose one, but two within such a short time. They're just so damn loveable, and annoying, and cute, and irritating. It's hard to live with them and it's even harder to live without them!

Thank you for your comments, especially in your own time of grief.

After my cat passed I still felt her presence for a long time. Our furry companions will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Wow. Tuesday was really rough, but as time goes by we'll remember the good times more and more, and the last week less and less. We lost Oscars brother (Felix, of course!) suddenly in February of 2009 to the same heart condition (which is how we found out Oscar had it) but back then we had Oscar to take up all of our attention...this time...the house is just empty.

On the plus side we can have nice things again. We don't have to get up every day at 5am to give Oscar his insulin and heart medication, and be home at 5pm to do the same. No more getting our hair licked at 3am when he was hungry, or, if he was particularly ornery, getting your nose bitten. Then again, we'd trade that all in a heart beat to have him back for a little while longer.

I want to thank you all for your kind words and support, they really were a comfort over the last couple of days. I lurk here every day but seldom post. People like you are the reason I keep coming back to DU.

Lastly, here is my favorite picture of Oscars brother, Felix. Man, he was a trouble maker!

so sorry. It takes a long time to get over the pain of losing your fur baby. Always remember the good times you had with him. He was a beautiful cat and he sure had gorgeous eyes.
