Of course, you get what you pay for, but you can pay less than $1K for a DSLR camera body and get excellent low light performance. OK, not 128,000, but still very good. With a little noise reduction, I can get very acceptable (8x10 printable) shots at ISO 6400 on my Canon EOS-7D and an f/2.8 through-entire-range zoom.
