It's so hard to get a clear picture of the moon in the dark sky without blowing out. What settings do you use?

and shoot around there. the moon is basically a sunlit object so the rule of f16 and iso is close.
I tend to underexpose from there to get a good shot. another key is using mirror lockup and a remote release if you have it especially if using a long lens.

The details are even better in this larger size. I can almost feel the gritty surface. And again, the shadow reveals its spherical shape beautifully.
