ive started to switch to lightroom from aperture. i also have photoshop cs5 for those occasions i really need it. the problem is the camera raw in ps 5 doesnt support my camera. in aperture photos going into ps were automatically converted to tiffs no so from lightroom.
should i just go ahead and convert all the imported raw files to dng's from the cameras raw format as i import them into lightroom? if there any practical downside to doing that (besides the extra step involved)

As for using DNG in general, most folks have a hard time finding any advantages to it except for getting around old versions of ACR.

(8,039 posts)for an update PhotoShop raw plugin that might cover your camera? I know I had to update mine in the past to open from my camera. Since you have CS5 I would check the Adobe webpage for an update.

I love Lightroom and seldom use Photoshop any more.

(9,314 posts)and there was no plugin available. I switched to the monthly subscription for Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. My camera was launched in April of 2012.
Bridge CS5, that was bundled with my Photoshop CS5 did support it, which is what I used to download my photos from my camera until I discovered the $9.95 subscription deal.
