(18,219 posts)Please don't tell me what you were "hunting" them for. I want to think it was so you could get a good photo. OK?

(2,825 posts)They are beautiful.
Personally, I think they are also kind of cute. Heck, I think all kinds of crabs are cute--Fiddlers, hermits, and those blue crabs you have there. Kept a couple of hermit crabs as pets when I was a child--then released them at the end of the summer.
Of course you live in Maryland--isn't that the blue crab state or something? I m sort of a hypocrite as I am an "almost vegetarian" just not all the way there yet.
My vet told me a funny story about herself--she was scuba diving with her husband and realized that scallops have four blue eyes. She thought they were so darned cute, she knew she would no longer eat them.

(131,129 posts)'We' caught about 7 blue crabs, note the blue on their claws, and put them back; family didn't want to cook them. Family is returning tomorrow, hoping to catch some fish, but not sure why; they don't want to clean them! I may buy a rotisserie roasted chicken, so we don't starve!

(17,005 posts)We have blue crabs here in Florida too. Growing up in Massachusetts has a child I was so scared of those spider crabs, they creeped me out along with the horseshoe crabs. I was always careful to wear sneakers in the water crossing the cove to go digging for clams for my family, but I didn't eat them. Got sick on Scallops, never ate them again.
I love fish, learned how to fish real young and clean them good and cook to enjoy.
You have a Wonderful time with family.
