Just saw the Helmut Newton exhibit in Paris.

The photos were amazing - especially seeing some of his nudes printed on very large paper.

His Polaroid work was interesting and his portraits very strong.

Some quotes from Newton.

"I am a professional voyeur."

and paraphrased:

"I'm not an artist, I'm a hired gun.

I shoot what I see, no retouching, no Photoshop.

I use the simplest equipment possible."

All food for thought.

A magazine hired me to put acupuncture needles in a model he was shooting. He took a Polaroid of me and signed it. Sadly some ink spilled on it and ruined it for the most part. It was a long time ago and I sadly didn't really fully know who he was at the time.

The level of detail is incredible. There's no better way to see this type of work.

June, his wife, said she never worried that he would stray photographing nudes, but she did worry when he went through a phase of shooting flowers.
