I don't know if this thread will go anywhere, what with the busyness of the holidays. I'll just throw it out there, sink or swim.

Nice colors and shapes.
EDIT: I just got to look at this on the computer monitor rather than my I-phone. The texture on those panels is very nice.

Are those hot springs?

(86,647 posts)I took this at the Lower Geyser Basin in Yellowstone NP last winter. It was somewhere around -3F which makes for amazing ice and snow in the basins. We get what are called "ghost trees" even away from the thermal areas from hoarfrost that stays all winter and just collects on the trees and everything else. I live near enough to the park that I visit often.
Here's some hoarfrost in a thermal basin...

If they ever got a taste of -50F, which happens here on occasion, they would be having a rough time I would imagine. But when it gets around -20F we often get to see complete circular prisms around the sun with cardinal points that look like laser beams, and sometimes they mirror so that it looks like the glyph for Taurus. I have even seen a complete mirrored circle with a secondary outer circle around the primary prism. The sky is so amazing in severe weather.

(19,459 posts)This is a very interesting shot, composition wise; so much energy in that chopper, and so much relaxation among the fishermen.
The blue and red of the chopper make a nice color composition with the rest of the photo.
You have an interesting pier.

(31,392 posts)That's the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier in Emerald Isle, NC.
When we're at the beach and I hear helicopters I run out on the deck with my camera. These helicopters usually aren't flying
quite so low.

(86,647 posts)since I have one I can tell!
It's a piece of cellophane-looking stuff, very thin, cut in the shape of a fish, you place it in the palm of your hand and make a wish or something. Depending on whether just the tail curls up or the head or if it rolls up completely indicates... something like your chances of getting your wish or if you're in a bad mood. It about 25 cents worth of entertainment.

(19,459 posts)Unfortunately the lighting was very harsh, as we were under some very bright street lights. The color version was quite garish, so I went with b&w to try to tone things down a bit.
Still pretty harsh lighting but the scene was a classic.

2naSalit
(86,647 posts)totally addicted. This is the first one I've participated in and it even made me join the group!
I lived in the Anza-Borrego one summer. I was camping at a small private resort where some friends were the year-round custodians. I was homeless and going to the desert got me out of greater San Diego... camped out in my little SUV for the whole summer. I wasn't the only one there camping out under the trees, the others had some off-road machines and we toured that whole area over the summer. We would get our motocross gear on, walk through the swimming pool and get all drenched helmets, boots and all, jump on the machines and go touring until the bandannas were dry. That was the sign it was high time to turn back.
End of summer came and I migrated to the northern Rockies, can't handle heat above +75F after that. And I don't mind eight feet of snow at all, which is what we've got a good start on right now. Landlord has had to plow twice already today.
