Random stuff

The second oldest structure in Solano County is an adobe built by Lansford Hastings (of Donner Party fame) in 1846. I wish I could show you the structure, but I discovered (to my chagrin) that what remains of it sits behind a locked gate.

In any case, the road out there passes over the Rio Vista Gas Fields, and the Montezuma Hills Wind Farm. I took these on the way there. That is Mt. Diablo peeking up (or should I say "peaking" up) over the horizon in the center distance in the first image below:

I don't know what causes the white cloudiness at the base of the windmills in the last image. It isn't there in the original, but as soon as I start to correct for exposure and contrast it shows up. It has happened on just about every image I've ever taken out there.

I can feel the wind coming across those hills!

Wow, some really wide-open spaces.

Mostly Eucalyptus (as wind breaks) but also Ash, and a smattering of native oaks. And, usually, palm trees around the houses on the older ranches and farms. It really is barren out there.

Complete with water traps.

I don't know what is causing it. It could be the ND filter I sometimes use when processing. I can see it faintly on that third one, too, and I don't think I used the filter on that one.

It would help if I knew more about how the filters/layers in Lightroom work. I recall you once telling someone that you learned your processing program through the "I wonder what happens when I move this slider" school of instruction.

I went to the same school.

If ther is a light colored base, that could be the culprit.

HDR causes halos too. That's why I don't use it much.

Love the wind machines, particularly the first one. Which is not to say I dislike any of them. That "end" sign is great.

One was practically illegible because of the number of holes. I saw it on the way in and was going to stop and take a photo on the way out, but ended up blowing it off.

Sheep are nefarious creatures. There is no telling what havoc they are wreaking out there.
