I'm in GA and they are definitely southern. I only knew 'lizard' and 'salamander'. I did not pursue biology....

I grew up in Florida. These guys were everywhere. If you could catch one (pretty easy) and held them up to your ears, they'd bite your earlobes and wouldn't let go. Tiny teeth, it didn't hurt. Gecko earrings...guaranteed to break the ice at parties.
