It must be a feeling full of awe to not just have seen it but to have gotten that photo! We're off and running in the "Coolin' it" contest.

(22,380 posts)we would laugh together. Just posted mine. I chose it just because I like it. Am leaving for my annual trip to the Keys, will be driving by myself, slowly, for four days.
There may be photographs.

(7,347 posts)A 4 day road trip to the keys...how idyllic (hot in the tropics too)!
I love road trips, but you know...driving back and forth between Portland and LA 8 times in the past 2 1/2 years tends to burn one out!
Hope to see lovely pix... ever make it to the Dry Tortugas? I remember an old TV movie set there with Dennis Weaver as Dr. Mudd, the physician who treated John Wilkes Boothe, and was imprisoned there. He successfully treated a yellow fever outbreak there and was pardoned, I believe. I guess the fort is still there. Don't know how you get there, though!

(22,380 posts)One of the rare creatures on earth who pays back what he has considered a monumental - life altering favor done him by my parents when he was a teen.
He got rich and has a condo we can use for a month each year, for free. Now that my Mom has died he has extended that privilege to me and I am abysmally grateful.
During my Mom's waning years the trip out to the dry Tortugas was not considered. But I will again look into it now, before my own waning years set in. There are trips to go there, it certainly is still there.
I plan to drive down the center of Florida, along what the map says are scenic routes, and along the shores of Lake Okechobee. Areas I have never seen are of great interest. Thanks for your response, Tom Kitten.

(31,392 posts)Watch out for the speed traps in small towns in Florida. When I drove down to Sanibel Island with Snowy a couple of years ago, we went across Florida from the east in Jacksonville to the Tampa side and there were actually billboards outside one small town warning drivers to beware the cops! Someone must have been really annoyed to get caught and then pay to put up a billboard to warn others.

(31,392 posts)with a shot taken on this trip--in Seattle. Very cool fountain. That's my husband who is the model. But he wouldn't take his clothes off for me. I could have titled it "Coolin' the cheeks".
CaliforniaPeggy

(31,392 posts)Tom Kitten said it: "Bonus points for photos of squirrels gnawing ice cubes"
Here's the squirrel (taken today outside the British Columbia museum in Victoria) where the temp is 77 degrees F.
Trusty elf, can you photoshop in an ice cube in place of the nut? If you do, we win!
Mira
(22,380 posts)But will he do it? Pretty please.

New graffiti downtown by a local artist. (and this is a very small town)

(149,627 posts)I'm glad you explained what it is, though...
I was puzzled.

(90,769 posts)The mural covers the entire side of the building, and the area surrounding it isn't attractive, so I kept to the wall. The area would have given people a better idea of what the painting is but well...

(12,132 posts)This was taken a few weeks ago woke floating down a river in Belize. That water was soooooooooooooo refreshing after hiking through the rain forest to get to the entry port. We floated downriver through Caves and flora. It was kinda magical.

(90,769 posts)very large flower pots out back - which are now more mud than anything. Your photo has been my week. Happy muddy dogs.

(17,086 posts)I looked out my window yesterday afternoon while sitting here at the computer and there he was, so I picked up my camera and shot through the screen. I'm so lazy.

(90,769 posts)I have even removed all barriers to a window once and stretched out across the back of a sofa to shoot from inside the house. That's when my husband decided I needed a bird blind. lol

(8,712 posts)It was taken with a 4" x 5" Polaroid Back attached to a square wooden box. NM has quite a few natural warm springs and this was taken at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa.
I used to do a lot of alternative photography, but now I just love my Canon 5D Mark II.

(8,712 posts)Looks like my views up here in the high desert of NM (except it's green right now for a while) - the log fence is great - leads you right into the photo. Beautiful color - I especially like the bright orange in the foreground - that pop gives the whole photo a painterly look.

(36,470 posts)It's Marshall Mesa trail in Boulder county about 6am before a really hot day. Taken with my cell phone. Seriously, you can't take a bad shot on the trails out here!

(18,635 posts)As usual, I had to decide between a couple pix. The one I chose may appeal to a greater mass, but as a car guy Maserati is my very definition of cool.
...and I've already posted this one:
