Got rid of my Epson Printer 'cause windows 10 obsoleted it and replaced it with a Cannon Pro-100.

Great printer, beautiful prints but the ink is gonna eat me alive.

Anybody found a lower cost option than buying the Canon product from Canon that doesn't destroy print quality?

From inkjets.com so I can tell you how they do in a few days. They ended up being under $4 a piece because I bought +3 of each color

Of course they threw in a bunch of free paper-all the better to soak up the ink! It's not the price of the ink cartridge, its the number of prints. Either give me bigger cartridges (at same cost) or lower the sales price to make me a happy man.

The Epson either would not recognize aftermarket ink or it was really bad quality.

I look forward to your report.

My Epson Artisan 1430 uses $22 ink archival ink cartridges and does AMAZING prints. How "pro" is your new Canon printer besides the insane cost of the ink? For that money it should trim, mount, and matte your prints, too!

and nearly total white areas. It pulls details that only appear on screen for the Epson. A lot faster and quieter too. Otherwise they're very comparable. You'd need two identical prints and really good light to see the difference. The Epson required more colors ink and a complete set of carts from Epson cost about the same. Printed a few more pictures/cart but I never found an aftermarket source that the 3800 would accept--just notified me that the cart was not an Epson item and refused to print with it. What I found that would print wasn't worth the trouble of loading the paper.

Canon did include 200 sheets of 8x10 paper and 50 sheets 4x6 but a lot of it is matte and I HATE matte finish. I use it for proofs and experimentation. At that rate they give me more paper than the carts will print!

I'll try a set when the current carts run dry. Meanwhile, the quest goes on . . .

I'm thinking of cutting my own custom mats as well. Hell, might even do some custom framing too--tired of being locked into standard sizes and aspect ratios.

I'm gonna start playing with transfer paper. Maybe do some wood slat pics. Also gonna try some stretched canvas prints.
