Related: About this forumHere's tonight's super moon...
There's a light layer of clouds which reduces the moonlight. Earlier, the clouds had been quite a lot thicker and I'd thought I wouldn't be able to get anything.
I just stepped outside a few minutes ago, and was surprised by what I saw.
Hope you enjoy!

(23,322 posts)Super Moon reminder!!! And, the gorgeous photo. I kept wondering why it seemed so bright outside out of the corner of my blinds! Duh. Mama needs to get with the program apparently...

(23,322 posts)While I live in Big Sky Country and our sky is indeed big...our valley is surrounded by mountains so we don't often get to see the moon at the horizon where it can appear to be so massive. We rely on you shutterbugs to show us what's what!!

(5,810 posts)It is very cold with wind chill dipping to -7 or lower tonight. My husband woke up this morning (New Years Day) at 6:40 to catch sight of the moon shining in the window. He grabbed
my camera and raced out on the deck in sub-freezing weather to snap some pictures. He woke me up to see the moon as it was setting. It was a large, orange-red ball dominating the sky. Just gorgeous and so unusual. Ive seen Harvest Moons but this one was different. The color was stunning. Sorry I cant post a picture as it is on my camera with no way to upload pictures.
Did anyone else in this vinicinty happen to see the orange/red moon? We talked about it several times today and other family members were thinking of getting up early tomorrow in hopes of seeing it.

(28,125 posts)Thank you so much for sharing, Peggy. My eyes are playing tricks on me because after staring for awhile, your moon almost seems to be moving closer. . Well, I did enlarge it a bit.
Last night around midnight I took our Lab for a short walk without a flashlight; everything was so bright and clear...and cold here. I wished I had had a good camera because I wanted to capture that beautiful moon and it's glow on the icy edges of the York River. It was a stunning, surreal scene. Wish you had been here with your camera.
I love full moons and your pics especially.
