Related: About this forumRed Paper Wasp and a drop of water
Sipping water drop on Zinnia leaf.
Very aggressive but only the female can sting. The sting is very painful. No stingers left behind - they can sting over and over and over and over again.

Beautiful photo!
A little scary, though. Is that a female?
Solly Mack
(90,773 posts)4. Nah. Stupid. :)
Yes, that's a female.
Males are smaller and have a bit more obvious black to them.

That one tiny drop of water, just big enough for a wasp.
Solly Mack
(90,773 posts)8. Thanks, brer cat
Yep. They tend to come around after I water.

Very nice!
When I was about 14 I stepped into a nest of ground dwelling yellow jackets while out hiking. 19 stings and bites, mostly on the face and head.
It hurt.

I used to catch Honey Bees in cupped hands to get a better look. Got stung a few times and stopped. I was 6 or so.

They like places where people are about.

Solly Mack
(90,773 posts)14. Maybe 5 - 6 feet away.
I was sitting and watching.
She was busy drinking and not paying me any attention.

I like how the stem behind her sets her off so nicely. Grand shot.
